The Office of Research and Strategic Planning (ORSP) in the WV Division of Justice and Community Services (DJCS) is seeking two candidates for Research Specialist I.  Under close supervision of the ORSP Director, the Research Specialist I will perform beginning level technical and analytical work of a quantitative and qualitative nature involving research, statistical analysis, data collection, and evaluation in the area of crime and justice.  Primary responsibilities for both positions include: obtaining, preparing, and analyzing data; developing data collection instruments and surveys; utilizing SPSS, Adobe In-Design, Microsoft Office, and other software to analyze data and produce reports for publication; presenting research findings to diverse audiences; and performing other related duties as assigned.   

One position will focus on, but not be limited to, efforts associated with establishing quality assurance standards and monitoring procedures as they relate to the use of various evidence based practices across various sectors of the criminal justice and juvenile justice system.  Candidates will work closely with Criminal Justice Statistical Analysis Center (CJSAC) and Justice Center for Evidence Based Practice (JCEBP) staff to develop effective means of monitoring assessment and service delivery for planning purposes and conduct complex research and evaluation studies.  This position will also require candidates to work with other staff to conduct trainings, and workshops as well as produce technical reports on evidence based practices, including but not limited to, offender risk assessment, case planning, and motivational interviewing as well as other types of research issues.

The second position is primarily responsible for producing analysis and research that supports state-level planning and development in the criminal justice and juvenile justice systems.  This position will work with a variety of data sources, including community and institutional corrections data, and will generate correctional population forecasts and other reports related to sentencing, evidence-based approaches to community supervision, and reentry.
