FACULTY POSITION The West Virginia University Division of Social Work invites nominations and applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor (depending upon qualifications and experience) beginning fall semester 2011. We are seeking candidates with expertise to develop a strong research and teaching profile in one or more of the following areas: social welfare policy, community organization, nonprofit management, program evaluation. Experience with service learning pedagogy is desirable. Gerontology and other areas will be considered as secondary areas of interest.
The Division offers a generalist BSW program and an MSW Program with two practice tracks (Direct Practice and Community Organization/Social Administration). The MSW Program is also offered on a part-time basis in several off-campus locations throughout the state. Faculty responsibilities include teaching, research, and service to the university, the state, and the profession. The successful candidate will be in residence at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV, and will also be expected to teach off-campus in accord with MSW program needs.
Essential qualifications include: An earned doctorate in social work or a related field; teaching experience at the BSW or MSW level; effective written and verbal communication skills; and ability to work collaboratively with various constituencies on multiple projects. Preference will be given to candidates with the following: Three or more years of practice and/or teaching experience; experience or interest in social work in rural environments; demonstrated potential for securing external funding; and ability to teach in the core curriculum. For appointment at the Associate Professor rank, a record of significant publication and active external funding are expected.
The Division of Social Work fosters interdisciplinary ties within the School of Applied Social Sciences, Eberly College of Arts and Sciences, International Programs Office, Office of Civic Engagement, WVU Center on Aging, and WVU Extension. Two global service-learning courses are currently offered in Northern Ireland and in Vietnam and Cambodia.
This position will begin August 16, 2011. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Division of Social Work has 560 students in its BSW and MSW programs, including its graduate off-campus locations. The Division has a national reputation for its work with small towns and rural communities. Both the BSW and MSW degree programs are fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
