CHILD & ADOLESCENT NEEDS AND STRENGTHS (CANS) ASSESSMENT

The CANS Assessment Tool is designed to support individual case
planning and the planning and evaluation of service systems.   It has
been successfully used to guide service delivery for children with
mental health needs, developmental disabilities, issues of sexual
development, juvenile justice involvement and child welfare involvement.
 The CANS may be used as a prospective or retrospective tool that is
face valid and easy to use, yet provides comprehensive information
regarding the clinical status of the youth.  The CANS may be used with
children, adolescents and their families with the primary objectives of
permanency, safety and improved quality of life
