Most psychotherapists agree that “people are hurt through
relationships and they can heal through relationships.”
Psychodynamic theories recognize the relationship existing between a
client and a therapist as the epicenter of the therapeutic process. This
workshop presents a psychodynamic perspective on how this unique
relationship develops. We will examine the elements of how and why
therapy works with particular emphasis on the importance of forming a
therapeutic alliance and how to work with this alliance during the
beginning, middle, and termination phases. Understanding the relational
matrix can widen clinical knowledge and promote mutual growth for both
client and therapist.

February 27, 2009, 9am-5pm, Gaston Caperton Center, Room 149,

This workshop will review with practitioners the importance of
recordkeeping and documentation. Social workers and counselors will
learn what kinds of legal or ethical proceedings they may face if they
are accused of behaving unethically, unprofessionally or even criminally
in their workplaces. Documentation is a key component of risk
management, is ethically required, and can be an important tool in
protecting a social worker or counselor against claims of unethical
practice or malpractice. Participants will review the importance of
confidentiality, informed consent and privilege as it relates to client
records and clinical practice.
