We all know there are “rules” for fundraising….the proper way to
write an appeal letter, how quickly to thank donors, the elements that
compel someone to give, and so on. But as times change, and donors
change, is it time to change those “rules”? X’er’s Nexters,
Millenials are moving in on “boomer” territory. This thought
provoking workshop will explore who gives now and why and discuss
tactics to consider as you tailor your message to multiple generations.

This workshop teaches participants when and why to use direct mail and
gives one-on-one, hands-on practice writing a direct mail piece for
their own nonprofit organization.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this workshop, participants will
1. Have drafted a useable direct mail letter for their own nonprofit
organization
2. Have had it gently critiqued by peers in other nonprofits
3. Understand the importance of evaluating direct mailings and how to
do that
4. Understand the importance of a timeline for each direct mailing, and
how to develop and use one
5. Understand how not to depend on direct mail but how to use it
appropriately in combination with other fundraising methods in
integrated campaigns and annual giving.
