TO: New, Potential and Returning Field Instructors
FROM: Samuel J. Leizear, MSW Field Instruction
Coordinator
	        DATE: July 7, 2009
RE: “Including Field Instruction in Your Social
Work Practice” Training

I am sending this notice to all new, potential and returning
social work field instructors and task supervisors who, according to
training records from 2003 to present, have not attended the updated
Field Instructor Training Program In order to facilitate compliance
with our Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accreditation
guidelines, as well as the conditions of the signed Memorandum of
Affiliation between your agency, facility or program and the University,
we will be offering a field instructor and task supervisor training
session on August 7, 2009.
This training has been scheduled to coincide with the beginning
of the MSW Advanced Field Placements (starting in either in July or late
August 2009). However, newly approved field instructors who either do
not currently have a student OR who anticipate having a student began
placement in July or late August MUST attend this session. If you are
not currently a field instructor, but have a BSW (to supervise BSW
students) or MSW degree (to supervise BSW or MSW students) from an
accredited social work program, and would and are close to meeting the
“2-year post graduate work experience requirement), you are also
eligible to attend. The specific information regarding the September
training session follows:

“Including Field Instruction in Your Social Work Practice: From
Mission to Evaluation”
Friday, August 7, 2009 8:30 AM to 2:45 PM
Milan Room, Hazel Ruby McQuain Conference Center
Monongalia General Hospital, 100 JD Anderson Drive, Morgantown, WV

© (Priority given to new field instructors and task supervisors
who are/will be hosting a student starting in July or August 2009,
others are welcome as space permits).

The session will include beverages in the morning and a networking
lunch, as well as free social work continuing education contact hours.
Anyone who would like to host a social work student in the future must
attend this training, or a student cannot be placed with you.

The training workshop is designed so that new and potential
field instructors can gain insights for effective supervision and
instruction beyond the material in the printed Field Manual. The
workshop provides the opportunity to network with Division faculty and
other field instructors and be recognized as a vital part of a
student’s learning experience.

I have attached the training agenda and Social Work
Board of Examiners Continuing Education learning objectives for your
review.

In order to plan for the appropriate amount of food and resource
materials, only those who RSVP can be admitted to the training. You may
RSVP in one of the following ways, contact Ms. Morgan Gorbey, at
304-293-3501, ext. 3110, or [log in to unmask] Please include
your name, agency affiliation, mailing address, phone number and email
address, in any email or voicemail messages, so that we can assure that
you receive a confirmation notice. The deadline for RSVP is August 4,
2009. Upon receipt of your attendance registration, you will receive
a confirmation email, which will include parking and other logistical
information.

The purpose of the training is to give new and potential field

theories with day-to-day field activities.

Learning Objectives: At the end of this training, participants will
have knowledge to-

1. Understand the place of the field experience in social work
education;

3. Develop with the student a coherent learning contract specific to
the level of field instruction that relates field activities with
classroom learning;
