The Partners in Policymaking Program Deadline Has Been Extended to July
14, 2009!

Slots are still available. Sign up now to participate in this life
changing advocacy training.

The WV DD Council is soliciting applications now from people who have
developmental disabilities or parents who have young children with
developmental disabilities and would be interested in attending the
2009-2010 Partner in Policymaking (PIP) program.

Partners learn about current issues and best practices and become
familiar with policy makers and the legislative processes at the local,
state, and federal levels. The overall goal is to empower people with
developmental disabilities and family members to stand up for their
rights and needs and to work with policymakers to make beneficial policy
and regulation changes. Partners attend 2-day training sessions (Friday
& Saturday) eight times a year, beginning in September and ending in
May. Each session is devoted to specific topics with nationally known
experts and presenters.

TOPICS INCLUDE:

History of Human Services, Parent, and Self-Advocate Movements;
Inclusive Education; Supported/Independent Living; Supported/Competitive
Employment; Person Centered Planning, Family Support, and Positive
Behavioral Supports; Assistive Technology; Federal/State Policy and
Legislative Issues; Advocacy, Community Organizing, Utilizing the Media;
Parliamentary Procedure and How to Run Meetings.

The training is free to those who are eligible to participate. The
Council also provides lodging and meals as well as reimbursement for
travel, respite and child care, upon request. The deadline to submit an
application is July 14, 2009. An online application is now available,
or print an application from our website at www.wvddc.org
<http://www.wvddc.org> . An application, brochure or other information
can also be obtained by calling 558-4588 (voice) or 558-2376 (TDD).

Please pass this information on to anyone who is eligible and may be
interested.

Thank you,
