Morning Session: Budgeting, Accounting & Finance for Nonprofits:
What’s the Big Difference?
Budgeting, accounting and finance can be bewildering topics for
nonprofit managers and board members. This session distinguishes
between the oft-confused areas of concentration and will help
participants build budgets, read financial statements and interpret them
given a short-list of important financial ratios. This workshop is
essential for nonprofit managers and board members without a business
background.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this workshop, participants
will learn the difference between budgets and financial statements; know
the essentials of building budgets; know how to use budgets as a
management tool; know how to analyze financial statements; and know the
essentials of accounting.
Afternoon Session: Raking in the Cash: A Primer on Nonprofit
Fundraising
Is it possible to raise funds in these challenging economic times? Yes
and it doesn’t have to be that difficult. Learn how to develop a
successful fundraising campaign from the ground up. Learn how to
“friend-raise”, develop exciting special events and create an
annual campaign and a capital campaign in this fact-filled, two-hour
workshop. Hear about successful fund raising ventures from across the
nation and how you can incorporate their strategies in your
organization.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this workshop, participants
will understand the critical elements of a successful fundraising
program; know how to create a mailing list for direct mail campaigns;
understand the importance of a community newsletter, e-letter in the
fundraising process; be able to create a fundraising budget; understand
how to engage their board members in fundraising efforts; and understand
the difference between an annual campaign and a capital campaign.
CEU information: This event has been approved for a maximum of 4
continuing education hours for licensed Social Workers, (WV, MD, PA, &
VA), under the West Virginia University School of Applied Social
Sciences Division of Social Work WVBSWE Provider #490051. Social Workers
