Faces of Leadership: Find, Build, Celebrate!

2008 West Virginia Conference on

Volunteerism, National Service, and Service-Learning

July 15 –17, 2008, Charleston Civic Center

Call for Presenters

About the Conference

Imagine a conference filled with people of all ages who see
possibilities in
problems, who are eager for new ideas, and who stand ready to roll up
their
sleeves to get things done – people who know that the serious
problems we
face in our communities cannot be solved by government or the private
sector
alone. Faces of Leadership attracts people with energy and passion for
positive community change – people who believe that a leader is
anyone who
steps up to help. This conference is the result of a partnership of
state
and federal agencies, nonprofits, faith-based and private organizations
and
is coordinated by the WV Commission for National and Community Service.

The Conference Theme

Text Box: Service causes leadership to bloom in unexpected ways. Faces
of
Leadership: Find, Build, Celebrate! stresses the importance of sharing
the
knowledge gained through volunteerism and community service. Service
brings
out the talents of people of all ages and all conditions and causes
leadership to bloom in unexpected ways. Community leaders face new
challenges because of the changing world in which we live. Each year,
the
conference program committee proudly brings noted authorities on
leadership
and organizational development to this conference.

About Proposals

This conference is intended to provide opportunities to explore,
develop,
and recognize the leader within everyone. It is the place to
spotlight
unique applications of volunteer resources and how they address
community
needs. The 2008 conference program committee is calling for
interesting,
innovative, and interactive workshop sessions which address the skills
needed to meet our state’s most pressing community needs through
volunteerism and service.

* Finding the leader within to improve volunteerism and
nonprofit
programming – Presentations should focus on discovery and development
of the
leadership skills in people of all ages and how those skills are
applied to
volunteerism and service.

* Building on the leader within to increase effective volunteer
and
service experiences and nonprofit programming – Presentations should
focus
on the development and application of skills for successful individuals
and
organizations.

* Celebrating the leader within to recognize and communicate
the
value of volunteerism and the results of community service –
Presentations
should focus on strategies for recognizing individuals and their
contribution to volunteerism and service.

connections.

* They are not in it by themselves – others are having

want
to be.

points
and list resources for further investigation.
