Clinical Supervision

Target Audience: Clinicians already providing clinical supervision to
trainees in one or more mental health professions (e.g., social work,
psychology, counseling, psychiatry, etc.). Clinicians interested in or
being considered for supervisory roles would also be appropriate.
Description: This workshop will present a psycho-dynamically informed
developmental approach to clinical supervision. Areas of interest will
include conceptualizing levels of clinician development and goals for
professional growth, strategies to tailor supervision to the individual
needs of the supervisee (e.g., counter transference, “parallel
process”) as well as techniques to identify and enhance the relational
“fit” between clinician and supervisor. Clinical material will be
presented to highlight aspects of both the theory and practice of
clinical supervision. Participants are also highly encouraged to bring
examples from their own experience as supervisors and/or supervisees.

Social workers will learn the types of actions that may give rise to
employment-law related claims and we will discuss the forums in which
those may take place. Social workers will learn why employers get
sued, what types of cases may be brought, and how their conduct in
employment-related cases may also give rise to ethics complaints as
well.
