Colleagues,
Sam Hickman will be honored by the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences as an alumnus of the year on Monday, March 17, 2008.
We invite you to a Social Work Reception in his honor from 4:30 to 5:45 in the Knapp Hall Student Lounge (29 Beechurst Ave, Morgantown) on that day. Light refreshments will be served.
Sam Hickman, 1977 graduate of the School of Social Work with the M.S.W. degree, has been the Executive Director of the National Association of Social Workers West Virginia Chapter, for 22 years. Each April, the Chapter hosts the largest annual continuing education conference in the NASW family, with about 2,000 participants taking advantage of 140+ workshop offerings and special events. The success of the annual conference has enabled the organization to have a far greater impact than its size would normally allow. Sam served as a gubernatorial appointee on the West Virginia Board of Social Work Examiners for ten years, and is currently serving on the boards of Good News Mountaineer Garage, West Virginians United for Social and Economic Justice, and West Virginians for Affordable Health Care. He chairs the FACES On Medicaid Coalition, a coalition made up of consumers, advocates and labor organizations which is concerned with the Medicaid State Plan Amendment and related i!
ssues. Sam is a member of the WVU Division of Social Work Visiting Committee and is the current Secretary and a 26-year member of the National Rural Social Work Caucus. His hobbies include traditional Appalachian and traditional folk music, cooking, and the newly acquired joy of grand-parenting.
Please plan to join us on Monday at 4:30.
