“Administrative Ethics is Not an Oxymoron”
Thursday, March 13, 2008
9:00 am to 12:00 noon
Jerry West Lounge, WVU Coliseum, Morgantown
Presented by: Roger Lohmann, PhD, Professor and Director Nova
Institute, WVU Division of Social Work
The ethical practice of social work involves more than the usual focus
on issues of confidentiality, dual relationships, and strict adherence
to an official code of ethics. Nowhere is this more true than in agency
administration, where the code has little or nothing to say. This
workshop will focus on discussion of a number of “difficult cases”
(both administrative and direct service) in which the NASW Code of
Ethics is silent, or inconsistent. Participants will also work in small
groups to discuss current administrative ethical dilemmas within their
specific realm of practice, as well as potential solutions.
Learning Objectives: Upon conclusion of this workshop, participants
should be able to
identify and discuss the provisions of the NASW code that deal with
explicit administrative situations; consider other (non-code or
rule-based) approaches to administrative ethics; and identify and
discuss administrative situations involving ethical challenges and
conundrums.
