Hi Jacki! 

 

I have an elderly patient who is not a U.S. Citizen (overstayed a Visa
from Germany) who is suffering from Alzheimer's Dementia. She does not
speak English at all and is not capable of caring for herself because of
the Dementia. Her son (who is her caretaker) is in need of assistance on
many levels. He lacks financial resources, support system, etc.  They do
not have any other known family members and have been told that they are
not eligible for any other programs due to his mother not being a
U.S.Citizen. He is working with the German government on his mother's
situation but has not had any luck because she is in America, not
Germany. He wants to stay in America and does not want to send her back
to Germany where she has no one to care for her. I have also noticed
that he is feeling overwhelmed and in desperate need of some respite
care, etc. He has VERY limited financial resources. Although Germany
will pay for her care in a nursing home there, he does not want to send
her back where she has no one. Does anyone know of any resources that
might help him? I am stuck. Any help or advice would be much
appreciated. Thanks in advance!
