Addressing Challenging Behavior in Children:  The Nature & Nurture

Do you work with children with emotional or behavioral problems?  If
so, your workday certainly isn’t lacking excitement.  Childhood
behavioral problems are one of the toughest issues that helping
professionals face today.  This workshop will provide participants with
an introduction to addressing challenging behavior.  Participants will
walk away from this workshop with a healthy combination of theoretical
concepts and “real world” tools that can be used immediately to
improve the worlds of children and professionals.

Target Audience:  All levels of practitioners

This workshop will review with practitioners the importance of
recordkeeping and documentation. Social workers and counselors will
learn what kinds of legal or ethical proceedings they may face if they
are accused of behaving unethically, unprofessionally or even criminally
in their workplaces. Documentation is a key component of risk
management, is ethically required, and can be an important tool in
protecting a social worker or counselor against claims of unethical
practice or malpractice. Participants will review the importance of
confidentiality, informed consent and privilege as it relates to client
records and clinical practice.

Building Networks and Collaborations in Communities

In recent years, both practical need and theoretical developments have
converged to place a greater emphasis on the role that networking and
collaboration plays in achieving individual, organizational, and
community objectives. In resource scarce environments where the
challenges are complex and solutions require collaborative approaches,
it is crucial that organizations have the capacity and skills to reach
out to others to share efforts, resources, and success. This workshop
investigates the importance of building
and maintaining networks at the community level and examining the
nature and context of collaboration. Special focus will be given to
recent developments in health and human services delivery in West
Virginia.
