Vision 4 Our Children is seeking a qualified individual to serve as an AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America) for one year to provide assistance in community outreach and research related to childcare and out-of-school time issues.
Vision 4 Our Children is a collaborative of organizations and community members that focuses on childcare issues including funding, public support, expansion, and quality. The VISTA will have two main responsibilities 1. plan, coordinate, publicize, and conduct community activities related to public awareness of childcare services and needs in our community and 2. identify funding sources and models from other communities that support childcare and afterschool programs.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to deal with various types of people and situations in a constructive and effective way. Some previous volunteer experience is helpful, but not required. Of special value is a demonstrated ability to accept responsibilities with minimal supervision. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
VISTAs serve for one year, full time. They receive a subsistence allowance for food, housing and incidentals. Medical coverage is provided and participants can select either an education award or an end-of-service stipend.
