SUMMIT
When Our Military Members Deploy: Supporting WV Military Members and Their Families
Monday, June 11th and Tuesday, June 12th
9 A.M. - 4 P.M.
Location: Blessed John XXXIII Pastoral Center, 100 Hodges Road, Charleston, West Virginia

Purpose: Designed to assist "helping professionals" and communities to be better prepared to connect prior veterans and returning veterans and their families to needed services in West Virginia. Increase awareness of available resources within a community, as well as developing ideas, strategies and other mechanisms to advocate and ensure information reaches our West Virginia veterans and families.

The Summit will feature Major General Allen E. Tackett, Army National Guard, The Adjutant General, Chaplain, Lt. Col. Charles E. Woods, CISM  Instructor, Chief , Crisis Intervention, and Barbara Kincaid, MSW.

The Summit will also feature workshops, panels, and speakers addressing the following areas: stress management, substance abuse prevention and treatment, children needs, and financial counseling and financial support.

NASW North Central Branch - Clarksburg, Fairmont, Morgantown Areas

The May 8, 2007 North Central Branch meeting was held at 6:30 at the Department of Health and Human Resources in Fairmont. NASW WV Executive Director Sam Hickman, ACSW was our guest speaker for the meeting. There was discussion on a number of topics:

--Medicare reimbursement for Clinical Social Workers
--NASW WV staffing
--Legislative Interim Committee meeting on Rule Making - For example, whether WV DHHR should remain exempt from promulgating rules concerning public assistance program services and administration
--Recruiting new members
--Proposed Chapter By-law changes
--Scope of Practice for Social Workers

UPCOMING MEETINGS - Also at WV DHHR in Fairmont (directions available on Chapter website at www.NASWWV.org): 

June 12: Program Meeting - There will be a presentation on Sharpe Hospital, its services and admission procedures. 

July 10: Business Meeting - we will discuss projects we want to take on and how we can assist with the NASW management institute, Sept. 20/21 in Morgantown. (No CE hours earned by attending this meeting)

August 14: Program Meeting - Melissa Brunner, from Try Again Homes, will be presenting on the trip she made to Peru to work with underprivileged children there.
