WVU Division of Social Work is offering a FREE CEU event at Shepherd
College (Blue Grey Room at the Student Center) in Martinsburg,
"Including Field Instruction in Your Social Work Practice", on Wednesday
5/9/07 9am-2:30pm.  This is a great opportunity if you are interested in
becoming a field instructor or task supervisor for graduate level
students, or if you need a "refresher" on the responsibilities and
expectations of field supervision for WVU.

5 social work CEUs, lunch provided.

Purpose:  This training session is designed primarily for new and
potential field instructors and task supervisors, as well as for those
field instructors and task supervisors who will have MSW generalist
placement students in the Summer. The purpose of the training is to give
new and potential field instructors and task supervisors some basic
knowledge and skills to enable them, not only to direct graduate level
social work students with respect to daily tasks, but also to integrate
classroom learning and practice theories with day-to-day field
activities.  

9:00 to 9:30 Introductions and overview of the session

9:30 to 10:00	Social Work Curriculum at WVU and the Place of the Field
Experiences in the Curriculum; Advanced Field Experiences; Mission of
Field Education

10:30 to 11:15	Role of the Field Instructor; Agency Orientation;
Supervisory Meetings

11:15 to 12:30 Integrating Theory with Practice; Creating Learning
Opportunities for Foundation versus Advanced Field Experiences; Legal
and Ethical Issues; Evaluation

12:30 to 2:30  Networking and Lunch

Learning Objectives:  At the end of this training, participants will
have knowledge to-

●	Understand the place of the field experience in social work
education;
●	Articulate the roles of the field instructor, faculty field
liaison, field instruction coordinator, and student in the experiential
learning process, including resolution of problems that may arise in the
field;
●	Develop with the student a coherent learning contract specific
to the level of field instruction that relates field activities with
classroom learning;
●	Conduct an effective agency orientation and weekly supervisory
meetings;
●	Identify essential theoretical content as the field placement
unfolds and incorporate this content into the experience;
●	Recognize legal and ethical issues related to having a student
in the agency setting;
●	Evaluate student performance.
