The Monongalia County Council of Social Agencies meets monthly in
Morgantown on the third Tuesday of the month, 12-1:30pm at the
Conference Center of Mon General Hospital.
Each month a different presenter gives a program which qualifies for 1
CEU for social workers. The programs are open to the community.
Membership in CSA is $10/year for individuals, $20/year for agencies.
If you prefer to attend the meetings and not hold membership, there is a
$2 cost per program if you wish to claim CEU credit.

2/20/07, 12-1:30pm: Communicating Through Conflict, by Jacob Lightsey,
MA
As a social worker we are often required to work with diverse groups of
people. These people can either be in the workplace or outside of the
workplace. When dealing with people, conflict is certain to arise.
Knowing how to effectively communicate is an important indicator of the
outcome of a conflict situation. In this seminar we will be discussing
conflict resolution and effective communication strategies. Knowing
these strategies will give you a unique insight and understanding of
conflict situations and the communication skill sets necessary to
resolve conflict.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this workshop participants will:
1) Be More Competent Communicators in Interpersonal Conflict
Situations
2) Understand their (current) Interpersonal Conflict Strategy
3) Know Conflict Resolution Strategies that Work
4) Know how to Cope with Conflict in the Workplace
5) Understand the Collaborative Approach to Conflict Resolution
3/20/07, 12-1:30pm: Meeting the Challenge of Maintaining a Balanced
Lifestyle, by Janet Scarcelli, MaED, MBA, CCAC
Participants will identify the value of balancing work, family,
friends, leisure, etc. and develop an action plan for life.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this workshop participants will be
able to:
1. To identify the types of stressors and effects of stress on
lifestyle.
2. To identify the differences of how males vs. women handle
stressors.
3. To develop a plan for managing daily life expectations and
pleasures.
