POSITION: Social Worker, GS-0185-11
LOCATION: Veterans Outreach Center, Princeton, WV
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: VAMC, Beckley, WV, Veterans Outreach Centers
in
Beckley and Princeton, WV and Nationwide
NUMBER OF VACANCIES: One, Full-Time, Permanent
SALARY: $52,912 - $68,787 per annum
NOTE: This position is excluded from the bargaining unit.
DUTIES: Incumbent will exercise mature professional judgment and use
of a
wide range of clinical skills in independently providing outpatient
clinical
psychosocial and case management services to veterans and their
families
primarily in an outpatient setting for issues related to readjustment,
Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), sexual trauma, substance abuse and
for other
complex and diverse psychological and/or sociological problems as
outlined in the
DSM-IV-TR. Interviews veterans, completes psychosocial assessments,
develops comprehensive treatment plan, establishes therapeutic
alliance with
veterans/significant others and provides individual, group and family
psychotherapy.
Analyzes psychological problems, identifies client needs, and reaches
independent conclusions regarding clinical impressions, treatment
approaches and
treatment planning. Responsible for identifying clients with
bio-psychosocial
problems or high-risk situations that need intervention and
resolution.
Provides group and individual therapy for a variety of issues and in
various
settings for issues such as, PTSD, depression, anger management,
substance
abuse, homeless, clinical and sub-clinical problems affecting
vocational and
social adjustment. Incumbent will demonstrate a broad knowledge of
the social and
psychological components of mental illness, interagency and community
resources. Work cooperatively with interdisciplinary team in the
evaluation and
arrangement of suitable placement for veteran in an inpatient mental
health and
or substance abuse treatment program. Prepare reports to include, but
not
restricted to, assigned duties, such as clinical progress notes, social
work
summaries, reports to other divisions or agencies, work activities and
peer
reviews. Develops and maintains effective professional working
relations with
staff, community veteran service agencies, other VA medical Centers or
Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC’s), mental health
facilities and community
agencies. Participate in necessary training and professional
self-development to function as a competent and knowledgeable
treatment team member.
Rating Factors: Applicants MUST respond to the following rating
factors.
1. Skill in providing individual, marital/family or group
psychotherapy
services to Vietnam, Persian Gulf, veterans.
2. Ability to provide psychosocial treatment to a variety of
individuals
from diversified backgrounds.
3. Ability to establish and maintain effective therapeutic
relationships
with patients and/or families, who are experiencing a variety of
complex
psychiatric, medical and social problems.
4. Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
5. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Per OPM Qualification Standards
Handbook,
GS-0185, Social Worker series and VHA Handbook 5338.4, Appendix A.
All
applicants regardless of grade level for the position of Social Worker
in VHA, must
have a Master's degree in Social Work from a school of social work
accredited
by the Council on Social Work Education and be licensed or certified
at the
Master's level to independently practice social work as defined by the
state
where the incumbent will be employed. Failure to acquire (within 3
years of
appointment date) and maintain such licensure while in a social worker
position
with this agency may result in termination of employment.”
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
In addition to meeting all basic requirements, 1 year of professional
social
work experience, equivalent to the next lower grade level under
qualified
social work supervision. This experience must have been in a
clinical setting
and must have demonstrated the potential to perform advanced
assignments
independently.
NON-QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE: Clinical social work experience obtained
prior
to completion of the requirements for a Master’s Degree in Social
Work does
not satisfy this requirement. NOTE: A clinical setting is a medical
center
clinic (medical or psychiatric), a residential treatment center, or any
other
type of facility where social work participates in collaborative
treatment and
is identified with the medical profession. OR In addition to meeting
basic requirements, a doctoral degree in social work from a school of
social
work. A doctoral degree in social work from a school of social work may
be
substituted for the required 1 year of professional social work
experience in a
clinical setting, to qualify at the GS-11 grade level.

Medical Necessity Care Manager
Description: Primary responsibilities are reviewing clinical
information
for prior authorization requests for outpatient behavioral health
services,
communicating decisions and completing technical assistance with
Medicaid
providers. Team member will also assist with developing and updating
review
protocols.
Requirements: Master’s degree and active WV clinical license in
Social
Work, Psychology, Counseling, or RN with psychiatric service
background. Social
Work license must be LGSW or higher if no clinical license from
another
discipline present.
Experience: Must have experience with either outpatient or inpatient
behavioral health settings. Medicaid/Public Sector Services
experience preferred.
