Faculty Position
The Division of Social Work of the West Virginia University Eberly
College
of Arts and Sciences seeks faculty support for its southern off-campus
MSW
program offered in Charleston and Beckley. The position is full-time
non-tenure
track and includes a combination of teaching, project development, and
support for our field education program to advance the mission of the
Division of
Social Work with particular emphasis on the needs of southern West
Virginia.
Successful candidates must have an MSW degree from a CSWE-accredited
program
and at least five years of post-MSW practice experience. An earned
doctorate in social work or closely related field is preferred.
Preference will be
given to candidates with the following: Teaching experience in social
work and
knowledge of accreditation standards of the Council on Social Work
Education
(www.cswe.org); understanding of social work practice in rural
environments;
and, evidence of the ability to build relationships among various
constituencies in the community. Given that the successful candidate
will have an
office in the state capital, interest in developing projects in
collaboration with
state agencies, the legislature, and the West Virginia Chapter of NASW
is
highly desirable. An example of such a project would be organizing
student
Social Work Day at the Legislature for the Division’s students
statewide.
This is a nine month academic year appointment (August 16-May 15) with
potential for a supplementary summer contract depending on program
need.
Instructional responsibilities include teaching graduate level
academic courses and
academic advising of graduate students. The successful candidate will
teach
primarily in Charleston or Beckley, but may also be expected to teach
an
occasional course in other MSW program sites depending on expertise of
the candidate
and program need. Teaching expectations may require the use of
interactive
video and other distance technologies. The successful applicant will
also be
responsible for outreach to agencies to establish and maintain field
placements for students. He or she will attend monthly faculty
meetings on the
Morgantown campus and participate as a member of the MSW Admissions
and Retention
Committee.
