Elder abuse is any action or behaviors that cause harm or creates the
serious
risk of harm to disabled or frail adults. It is an umbrella term
for a
range of socially intolerable behaviors that describe physical,

emotional, or sexual mistreatment, and financial exploitation of the
elderly.
At the Raleigh County Commission on Aging, we believe that all
senior
citizens deserve to live with dignity and security. This means
that they
have the right to live a life free of exploitation and abuse.
In order to combat this social problem that is estimated to effect 6%
of our
senior population (in Raleigh County that is nearly 1,000 senior

citizens), we must work together to understand the complexities
of the issue,
including what it is, how to identify it, and community resources

available.
Through these efforts, we truly can help seniors hold on to what they
value
most… Their independence.
