Forum On Affordable Health Care
On Tuesday, September 11, 2007, at 7:00 PM at Shepherd University's
Robert
Byrd Center for Legislative Studies, The League of Women Voters of
Jefferson
County will hold a public forum addressing the issue of affordable
health care in
West Virginia. Although there is a reasonable plan on the table,
action in
implementation has been slow. To understand the problems, we have
invited
Perry Bryant, Executive Director of West Virginians for Affordable
Health Care,
and Carl Callison, Mountain State Blue Cross Blue Shield’s Director
of
Communications and Corporate Planning, and our local State Delegates to
discuss this
vital issue. Our health care system has been a major national issue.
This
forum will focus on what West Virginia can do for its citizens.

The League of Women Voters, a non-partisan, political organization,
takes the
position that quality, affordable health care should be available to
all U.S.
residents. Other U.S. health care policy goals should include the
equitable
distribution of services, efficient and economical delivery of care,
advancement of medical research and technology, and a reasonable total
national
expenditure level for health care. Furthermore, the League believes
that all Americans
should have access to a basic level of care that includes the
prevention of
disease, health promotion and education, primary care (including
prenatal and
reproductive health), acute care, long-term care and mental health
care.

This event is free and open to the public.
