Distinguished Presenter :      James E. Miller, PhD.
Miller is a writer, trainer, grief counselor, spiritual director, and photographer specializing in the areas of loss and grief, managing transition, finding hope, spirituality, caregiving, elder adulthood, and healing presence.  Originally educated as a United Methodist clergyman, he began working on his own in the late 1980”s after forming Willowgreen, Inc.  He is the author of 20 books and the creator of 22 audiovisual presentations which are in use by over 2,000 hospitals and hospices in the United States and Canada.  Jim speaks extensively throughout North America, and conducts workshops and retreats for a host of organizations, including hospice staffs.  He is a graduate of DePauw University and Garrett Theological Seminary and holds a doctorate from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary.  His home and offices are in Fort Wayne, Indiana.    

Course Outline
“The beginnings of Healing Presence:  Our Roles as Caregivers”
	-Discuss the nature and essence of caregiving; identify how early life experiences 
	influence one’s caregiving
“The Art of Being a Healing Presence”
	-Four aspects of the nature of presence; six principles of the nature of healing; five principles behind being a healing presence
“The Practice of Being a Healing Presence”
	-Five main actions that encourage healing presence
“Beautiful Like Autumn Leaves:  A Tribute to End-of-Life Caregivers”
	-How the beauty of autumn can relate to the experience of dying; affirmation of the importance of the work you do while being affirmed yourself through word, music, and photography

*The program is free and open to all interested but designed particularly for nurses and other professionals who provide end-of-life care either in a clinical or home care setting.
CE approval is being sought for social workers and counselors.  Nursing CE’s are under consideration.  Registration will be on-sight from 9:30 to 10:00AM.
